Language Arts Period 5  

June 2013

This year, in Language Arts, we will be practicing skills to help students decode unfamiliar words,  and improve their comprehension. We will read a variety of material including novels, poetry, folktales and short stories.  Students are required to read two hours outside of school per week, keep a weekly record of their reading and complete a book report once a month. They will also be writing essays and performing speeches. During second semester, students will be given a vocabulary skills assignment on Mondays, the first page of which will be due on Wednesdays. There will be a quiz over the skill every Friday. Also during second semester, students will be given packets for each of the novels we will be reading and periodically, the assignments in the packet will be due.
