Important Update on St. Paul District Operations

November 17, 2020

Dear St. Paul Community,

Our district continues to operate under the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance from the State of Oregon; the majority of our students are receiving instruction through the Comprehensive Distance Learning model. Limited in-person instruction is being provided to certain students in order to provide them an equitable educational opportunity. The Governor’s order which goes into effect on Wednesday November 18 does not impact our ability to continue providing limited in person instruction and will not impact our current educational programs. It may however keep us from moving forward with any plans for additional in person instruction in the near future. The order also limits the number of individuals that can be indoors at one time, this may impact some of our athletic activities. I am encouraging everyone in our community to comply with the requirements of the two week “freeze” in activities including the “no more than two households and six person” limitation that will be in place November 18 through  December 2nd. It is only with all of us working together to reduce the spread of covid in our communities that we will be able to begin considering a reopening of our schools in the coming months. St Paul school district has had one individual who tested positive for covid, this person was in our school district on a regular basis. All contact tracing and notifications have been made in compliance with the Oregon Health authority and Marion county health department. There is no evidence of other cases in our schools or there is no evidence that the virus was transmitted in our schools. We are continuing to monitor the situation and are following all recommended health and safety guidelines including sanitation and social distancing.

Parent teacher conferences scheduled for next week will utilize a virtual format and will be optional conferences k-12, please watch for information regarding conference schedules to come out from your childs’ school.

With the holidays approaching I would like to extend my best wishes to you and your families for a safe and enjoyable experience over the thanksgiving weekend. Please feel welcome to reach out to our schools for social emotional support for your children or if we can support you in any other way.

More information on Safe Schools in Oregon can be found on the Oregon Department of Education website. https://www.oregon.gov/ode/students-and-family/healthsafety/Pages/Planning-for-the-2020-21-School-Year.aspx

Be safe, be responsible, wear a mask, and social distance.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. Wehrli
