I was born in Corvallis, Oregon, where I grew up participating in orchestra, symphony, Girl Scouts, gymnastics, and a wide variety of visual arts. Having been raised by two engineers, I originally intended to combine that upbringing with my love of the arts and become an architect, so I headed south to the University of Oregon for college. It was there that I participated in choir for the first time. I fell in love with it immediately and have been involved in it ever since. After trying out a wide variety of subjects my freshman year, I realized that my true passion was teaching, and after a two-year period studying to become a bilingual math teacher, I finally decided that language teaching was a better fit. I’m very glad that I did, because now that I have been teaching Spanish and ELD for almost a decade, I can’t imagine doing anything else!
Along with teaching at St. Paul, I also serve as an interpreter and translator and as the English Learner Coordinator for the district. While in college, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Querétaro, Mexico, and I traveled to Spain and Italy in the summer of 2011. I plan to travel more in the future, and I hope to inspire and prepare my students to do the same. Along with being able to teach nearly every level of Spanish and ELD and to help every St. Paul student on their journey towards becoming bilingual, I feel very fortunate to also be able to pass on my love of music to future generations by teaching choir as well as to pass on my love of art, photography, and graphic design by advising yearbook. In my spare time, I enjoy singing, playing the violin, learning to play the guitar and piano, watching OSU gymnastics, cooking, reading, writing, drawing, gardening, watching movies and television, and spending time with friends, family, and my cats, Scout and Copper.
