St. Paul Community Members 5.13.16

Dear St. Paul Community Members,

Spring is an exciting time of year in the St. Paul school district. I would like to take this opportunity to share some basic information about the district budget, bond project activity and the great things happening in our schools.

On April 26 our district budget committee approved our proposed balanced budget for the 2016-17 school year. I am pleased to inform you that the budget includes a technology package that will provide a Chromebook laptop for each student in grades 8-12. These devices will be used regularly in the classrooms and will provide students the opportunity to use devices that will help them prepare for education and the workforce beyond high school. The proposed budget information is available on the school district website and in the district office.

Following the award of the 1.46 million dollar seismic grant to the district our bond project design team met to determine the best approach to incorporating this additional resource into our existing projects. As a result the district has elected to move the construction project for the elementary school to the summer of 2017. This will allow us to design the project to include the additional seismic retrofitting and create a construction schedule that will be less disruptive to the school and community. Construction of the auxiliary gym, renovation of the high school locker rooms and the remodel in the agricultural classroom will begin this summer. Prequalified contractors will be submitting their project bids to the district by May 26.

The St. Paul school district has a strong history of academic and athletic success as well as many other outstanding programs in FFA, FBLA, National Honor Society and the Arts. At this time of year we set time aside to celebrate the many achievements of our students in each of these areas. Watch our district website for news of these events and come join in the celebrations. This is also a great time of year to come to the district and enjoy watching softball, baseball or a track meet.

Thank you for your continued support of our great schools, students and staff.
