Dear St. Paul Community,
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Austin Smith, a St. Paul firefighter who lost his life early in the morning on February 3rd. This comes as a shock and is a huge loss to our entire St. Paul Community. We know that Austin had many positive connections to our school community and want our families to know that we are encouraging you to take whatever time that you need to begin the grieving process with your families. If you feel it would be better to have your family together tomorrow and keep your children at home the district fully supports your decision. Our schools will be open Friday, February 3rd and we will have counseling available for any students that may need support at any time during the school day.
To all the impacted Fire Department families, their children, and local community members we extend our deepest sympathy.
