MS ATHLETIC: Parents,
With middle school spring sports fast approaching, I would like to get some important information from families interested in participating this season. St. Paul Middle School currently provides Track & Field for grades 5-8, and baseball and softball for grades 7-8. I know we have other league organizations that are open for registration so I would like to get a few questions answered. Hopefully, with your communication this will help determine our availability for the upcoming season.
As we currently stand, we have estimated 13 boys who have shown interest in playing baseball and 7 girls with interest in softball. However, a couple of these athletes also plan on participating in track and field. The issue with participating in both sports is that baseball/softball compete on the same days as the scheduled track meets. If an athlete chose to make track their priority sport they would be unable to compete in 6 baseball/softball games. As of now the baseball/softball schedule includes 11 games.
I would also like to get feedback regarding potential schedule conflicts with players competing in other leagues. Would families be comfortable committing to MS baseball/softball over practices and games in other leagues? In the likelihood that we have limited players for the majority of the season, I would like to make sure we could fulfill our schedule to our league. We must also take into account the possibility of players missing games for reasons such as sickness, vacations, and other outside circumstances.
Our goal is to provide our student athletes with as many extra-curricular opportunities as possible. If you could please respond and let me know if your child would be interested in participating in a spring sport it would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please contact me.
Thanks,
Cam Tharp
